Happy New Year 2007

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

Time flies when you’re having fun and I haven’t updated my blog for ages. Here’s a picture of me to start the year off with. That’s as smart as you’re likely to see me in 2007.

Adrian NYE2006

This picture was taken just before I went to my friend Eva’s Titanic Themed New Years Eve party. The party was thorougly entertaining and included video showings of “A Night To Remember”, a string quartet to welcome us, and of course no Titanic party could be complete without …

World’s Biggest Band

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

My friend Paul’s rudely named band, “Gloryhole”, claim to be the biggest band in the world. I can’t find anyone to contradict them - even The Polyphonic Spree only come in close at “about 29 members, we sort of lost count”.

Gloryhole

Gloryhole’s “32ish” is a bit of a cheat ‘cos they don’t all play at the same time. Still, it is quite an achievement getting that number of people together to put on a gig. And it’s the quality that counts.

Friday Late at the V&A

Monday, December 4th, 2006

If you were quick enough, you may have read the entry on here for “Friday Late at the V&A”.
If you weren’t, then I’ll just say we had a great time.

My internet service provider would like to apologise for the fact that they destroyed the last week’s worth of entries on my website, including the Friday Late at the V&A entry. No, actually, that’s a lie. They didn’t want to apologise. In fact they didn’t even want to own up to it.

Their response was, in fact, to send me an email offering to sell me a service whereby they backup my website. Funny, that - my double glazing business sells a similar service, where for just a small fee we don’t come around your house and break all your windows.

No free link here to a dodgy service provider that doesn’t deserve it, but their name’s eUKHost if you want to know who to stay away from.

Wonder how long this entry will last before there’s another “accident”.

Anyway, to make up for the disappointment you have undoubtably suffered, here’s a bonus picture of me looking silly. This is me wearing the measuring equipment for the fun fair ride mentioned in the Dana Centre article.

Avenue Q

Monday, November 13th, 2006

After a bit of a break, I finally managed to pull off another Gig-Listed outing. This time the lucky venue that got to host our event was the Noel Coward Theatre, showing Avenue Q. This event also broke the record for most friends at an event with sixteen of us present.

So, what was our verdict on the show?

Fairground: Thrill Laboratory

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Last week seemed to be fun-fair week. It started with a trip out to Thorpe Park (Click here to read about my previous visit). I followed that up two days later with a visit to the Dana Centre’s Fairground: Thrill Laboratory event.

First off, the obligatory rollercoaster pic:

Colossus

I’ve already got a Stealth pic on here, so this one’s Colossus - Thorpe Park’s record breaking loopiest coaster in the world. Credit for this excellent picture goes to Tom.

We had a great day at Thorpe Park - pretty much your standard theme park experience. They opened late, which meant we got to ride Samurai (a Mondial Top Scan ride) in the dark, for that extra funfair atmosphere.

The week’s second funfair event at the Science Museum was far from a standard event …

Human Tower

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

So much to write about and so noticeably little actually written. I’ve been busy since the last blog entry. Still plenty happening. I just haven’t written it all down yet. To start with here’s a picture I didn’t take which shows a Human Tower.

Human Tower

I saw this demonstrated at the Regent Street festival at the weekend. Annoyingly I can’t get my new phone to connect to my computer to download the picture, hence this one borrowed from the internet. Worse, I now have unwanted Bluetooth software installed all over my computer.

So, what else have I been up to?

Monsters of Rock

Sunday, June 4th, 2006

Another gig report - this time, Monsters of Rock at Milton Keynes Bowl, featuring Alice Cooper and Deep Purple.

Apologies for lack of picture this time - the event rules were somewhat strange regarding cameras, so I didn’t take mine as I didn’t want to risk having it confiscated.

As luck would have it, yesterday was the hottest day of the year, so far. Blazing sunshine all day. Perfect festival-going weather. There were plenty of pink-looking people around towards the end of the day. I came prepared as I knew I didn’t want to suffer the usual Rudolph nose I get when I’ve been out in the sun too long.

Read on for more about the acts we saw.

Canary Wharf Motor Expo

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

The Canary Wharf Motor Expo has made for a nice diversion from work this week. The Expo is a free motorshow featuring various brands of car, all dotted randomly around the Docklands area.

In common with pretty much every bloke on the planet, I’d have to say my favourite cars were the ones indoors in the “posh” area. Saab cars may be nice, but for sheer glamour they can’t hold a candle to Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

Or this vehicle?

Dan Flavin Exhibition

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

This evening I went to see the Dan Flavin Retrospective at the Hayward Gallery. An entire gallery full of fluorescent light tube art works.

Visitors aren’t allowed to take photographs but luckily for you I already possess a similar work of art, currently on display on my kitchen ceiling.

But is it art?

The Darkness - Alexandra Palace

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006

This blog is starting to turn into a bit of a London Music Events Diary. This entry continues that trend and takes the death-speed-metal theme even further than Children of Bodom and into The Darkness.

Harder and heavier than anything you’ve ever heard before … or at least, you’d think so, given the name, but actually they are more than just a little bit camp and not even the teeniest bit “metal”.

The Darkness

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the picture above showed a large pair of floating comedy breasts. There’s a reason why it looks that way …
